How I handle your information — written like a human, not a form letter.

This page explains — in plain, ordinary language — how I collect and use personal information across any website, page, form, or project I run personally, including chrislacey.com and everything connected to it. I wrote this myself. I'm not a lawyer, and this isn't meant to read like something a law firm produced. It's my honest attempt to tell you what happens to your information when you share it with me.
This page is written by me, Chris Lacey, personally. It applies to chrislacey.com and any other website, page, form, or personal project I operate under my own name or brand properties (like BAR & COCOA), unless that property posts its own separate policy.
I'm based in South Carolina, USA, and that's the home base for how I think about and manage this data.
This document describes my current practices as honestly and clearly as I can. It is not a contract, and it doesn't create legal obligations between us beyond what the law already requires. It's not exhaustive — I can't predict every situation — and I may update it as my tools, services, or practices change. By using my websites or projects and voluntarily submitting information to me, you're giving me your permission to use that information the way this page describes.
Depending on which page, form, or project you're interacting with, I may collect things like your name, email address, phone number, WhatsApp details, business information, country and travel information, files or documents you upload, and anything you choose to write in open text fields. I only collect what you choose to give me — nothing is pulled from anywhere else without your knowledge.
Like most modern websites, some of my sites also use standard analytics tools — currently including Google Analytics — which collect general information about how people use them (pages visited, general location, device type, and similar technical details). This is normal, automatic, and not something I personally review line by line.
I use the information you give me to communicate with you, understand who I've connected with, run my projects, and generally make good use of the relationships and conversations I have. I use modern tools and platforms to help me do this efficiently. Some of those tools are excellent; realistically, no tool or platform anywhere is perfectly secure, and I think it's more honest to say that plainly than to pretend otherwise.
What I won't do: sell your personal information to anyone, for any reason. And I won't hand your identifying details to a third party without your permission, outside of the ordinary tools (hosting, email, analytics, and similar services) that keep my websites and projects running.
I generally keep information indefinitely, or until I decide otherwise. I'm not obligated to notify you if or when I delete something. If you'd like your data deleted, just ask — send a request to the email below, and once I've received and acknowledged it, I'll delete what you've asked me to delete.

I'll do my best to honor these requests promptly and in good faith, regardless of where you're located or which country's laws might apply to you.
I try to respect people's privacy even in situations where it might be easier, more profitable, or more convenient for me not to. That includes protecting who said what to me, even if someone else would like to know. I can't promise perfection, but I take this seriously.
I'm a person, not a company with a compliance department. I do my best to handle information carefully, but mistakes happen — emails get misrouted, forms get misread, humans are imperfect. If something ever goes wrong, please tell me directly so I can fix it.
