Privacy Policy & Terms

This is the official privacy policy for the personal websites operated by Chris Lacey, including chrislacey.com and its subdomains and the lacey.me family of sites (together, “the sites”). It explains what these sites collect, how the information is used, and the choices you have. This page — privacy.chrislacey.com — is the only official privacy policy for the sites, and every page links here in its footer. If any other page, tool, or link on the sites says something different about privacy, this policy is the one that governs.

Individual use only — not approved by any company. The tools, links, forms, and downloads on these sites are personal projects created by Chris Lacey for individual, voluntary use. They are not products of, and are generally not reviewed, approved, or endorsed by, any employer, manager, or company — including Harris Teeter, PetSmart, Target, or any other business named or referenced anywhere on the sites. Using them is your own choice and your own responsibility. Before you use any workplace-related tool (such as a login or scan-card generator), follow your own company’s policies and get your own manager’s approval. Nothing on these sites is official guidance from any company.

1. Who is responsible

These sites are operated by Chris Lacey as an individual (and, for business matters, JetStart Consulting LLC). See Contact below to reach him.

2. What is collected

Information you give directly. When you use a contact form, you may provide your name, contact details (email, phone, or WhatsApp), how you know Chris, your message, and — if you are a contractor or vendor — company and tax details you choose to enter.

The scan-card / badge tool (badge.chrislacey.com) — handled specially:

Your employee number and password are used only inside your own web browser to draw the barcodes on your card. They are never sent to Chris or anyone else, never stored, and never emailed or texted. Closing the page erases them.
The other details you enter (name, store, job title, comments, and any “how are you doing” note) are sent to Chris only if you check the box giving permission. If you don’t check it, nothing you typed leaves your device — only the PDF card is created.

Wellbeing / “how are you doing” messages. These are voluntary and may include sensitive information about your mood, stress, health, or mental health. Chris reads them personally so he can offer support and may reach out to you. This is a personal, peer-to-peer gesture — it is not a medical, clinical, counseling, or emergency service.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, get help now. Call or text 988 (US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free, 24/7). If someone is in danger, call 911.

Automatic information. Like most websites, the sites and the third-party services they use may record standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of your visit, and may use cookies.

3. How the information is used

To reply to you; to provide the tool or download you asked for; to offer help or follow up (including any wellbeing note you chose to send); to operate, secure, and improve the sites; and to meet legal obligations.

4. Your consent and choices

Almost everything is collected only because you chose to provide it. Sending your personal details or a wellbeing note from the scan-card tool is opt-in — nothing is sent unless you tick the box. You can ask Chris to show you, correct, or delete the information he holds about you at any time (see Contact).

5. How the information is shared

Workplace and employee messages are private personal submissions. If you identify yourself as an employee of Breeze, Harris Teeter, or another organization and send Chris a message—including feedback about what could make your work life better—the message goes to Chris’s personal contact system. It is not an official employer survey or reporting channel and is not automatically sent to your employer, management, or HR.

Chris does not sell your information, and it is not shared with your employer. Limited sharing happens only with the service providers that make the sites work (for example, web hosting and the messaging provider used to send WhatsApp/SMS replies), only as needed — or where required by law or to protect someone’s safety.

6. Third-party services

The sites load fonts and code libraries from third-party networks (such as Google Fonts and cdnjs) and may use a messaging provider (such as Twilio) to send confirmations. Using the sites may involve those providers’ own handling of technical data under their own policies.

7. How long information is kept

Information you submit is kept only as long as needed for the purpose you gave it, or until you ask for it to be removed.

8. Security

Reasonable steps are taken to protect your information, and the sites use HTTPS encryption. No website or method of storage is ever 100% secure, so please share only what you are comfortable sharing.

9. Children and teens

The sites and tools are intended for adults (18 and older). Some workplace tools may reach younger employees; if you are under 18, please involve a parent or guardian, and do not send wellbeing or health information without their knowledge. Chris does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the United States and, for international visitors such as those using brasil.lacey.me, other regions), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your information. To exercise any of these, contact Chris below.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The effective date at the top always shows the latest version, and any significant changes will appear here at privacy.chrislacey.com.

13. Terms of Service — acceptance of these terms

The following terms govern your use of chrislacey.com and its subdomains and the lacey.me family of sites (together, “the sites”), in addition to the privacy commitments above. By using the sites, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the sites.

14. Your license to use the sites

Chris grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to view and use the sites and their forms, tools, and downloads for your own personal or business purposes. You may not copy, resell, scrape, or repurpose the sites’ content or code for another product or service without asking first.

15. No professional advice

Nothing on the sites is medical, legal, financial, tax, or other professional advice, even where a tool or form touches on those topics (see the wellbeing note in Section 2). Always use your own judgment and consult a qualified professional for anything that matters.

16. No warranty

The sites and their tools are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including that they’ll be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. Chris does his best to keep things working and accurate, but this is a personal project, not a commercial product with a service guarantee.

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Chris and JetStart Consulting LLC won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the sites. If liability can’t be excluded, it’s limited to the amount (if any) you paid to use the sites.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless your local law requires otherwise.
